Our Top 10 Depressing Movies

1. Requiem for a Dream (2000)

Often described as a full sensory experience, Requiem for a Dream is a killer of a brighter time. Originally created from the book written by Hubert Selby Jr., this movie does a wonderful job of captivating the true essence of drug addiction both the euphoria and nightmares. The films director Darren Aronofsky does an excellent job of pushing the envolope employing various shock techniques and sound manipulation to create a shocking sensory overload.

The film itself is one of the most horrific yet fascinating things ever put on the big screen. It's a failry basic plot: Junkie Harry (which is played by Jared Leto) is an out of control heroin addict that pawns off his mom's goods for his next hit. His best friend Tyrone (Marlon Wayans, yes the dude from Scary Movie), is nothing but a problem and creates a plan to steal a pound of the purest, making them the quick buck. Marion, Junkie Harry's girlfriend (Jennifer Connelly) has aspirations of opening her own store with her portionof the gains. Harry's mom has a strange obsession with somehow appearing on her favorite gameshow.

This is not your typical happy go lucky type of movie, this isn't a film that you show your ma or pa or even any relative. This is a sad movie about despair and lost dreams. Aronofsky's sound engineering and visual experience will get you at the heart of the true emotions of the film. It'd be masochistic to see this film twice, absolutely the number one top depressing movie.
